Embracing the journey
When I started my business just over 1 year ago, my goal was to overcome the barriers I had faced for breaking into the creative industry, bettering myself not only as a creative storyteller, but as a friend, a brother, a son, an Uncle. Time and time again I would apply to positions, only to receive the “We regret to inform you” letter in response. Each time I applied, felt I was being judged only on my level of experience; it was as if my only importance lay in what I had achieved, rather than what I was capable of achieving through hard work, dedication, and passion.
This, I feel, is a common occurrence within almost every industry — a tendency to judge applicants solely on experience, with a failure to consider their character. So, rather than waiting for a company to see me for who I truly was, I decided to discover that myself, establishing my own business, KB Visuals, in December of 2021.
The man on the left is whom I felt society wanted me to be; the man on the right, whom I desired to be.
There have been a lot of ups and downs throughout this past year, but through it all my mission was simple: to prove to others that you are capable of becoming the best version of yourself. To let whomever is reading this know that, at any given moment, you have the power to change how you view the world around you, and how you fit in to it. You create your own worth, and no one on earth can determine this better than you.
And now, as I sit here and write this in a hotel room in Delhi, India, I am proud to say I’ve accepted my first international content creation partnership with TDA Global Cycling. Over the course of the next two months I will be traveling across India on the “Hippie Trail” (link below) with 19 cyclists from all over the world, sharing the experience through photography, videography, and blog posts. Looking forward, what excites me the most is not how far I’ve come, but what I have to look forward to: continuing my mission to inspire through the lens (literally) of other humans, all whom have faced challenge, strife, and growth in their own way.
TDA Global Cycling spans 6 continents and 80 countries. Their motto “Dare to be different” aims to inspire others to push themselves to be their best, a value my business shares, and one I’m excited to support.
I move forward now with confidence in God, and a desire for my story to inspire yours. As I venture across a new landscape and culture I acknowledge how far I’ve come and willingly accept all of the challenges that are coming my way, for without challenge there would be no growth. My hope is that you, too, can not only accept the challenges that life ultimately demands, but embrace them, overcome them, and grow from them. That you too can look inwards, take risks to explore your happiness, and embrace the journey. No one deserves it more than you.
